My New Tattoo

Happy New Year, everyone!  I hope your January has been amazing.  There’s certainly a LOT going on around here – so much so that it’s hard to find time to blog (I’m also working 13 out of every 14 days).

—————-

I was looking back at my January blog from a year ago (“An Axe For The Frozen Sea Within Us”) where I listed TEN new year’s resolutions for 2013, and I’m very excited to report that in the past year I accomplished them all.  EVERY.  SINGLE.  ONE.  Even if I DID get heartbroken/”dumped” back in July, just attempting a relationship was a very big deal.  And taking a vacation…that was major.  So many things attempted, so many things achieved…now THAT’s progress!

The last item to be completed in 2013 was my 2nd tattoo (pictured above), and I made the deadline at the last minute — on New Year’s Eve…

Getting My New Ink...

I know you can’t really see the quote in the two above photos, but it is THIS:

“Even amidst fierce flames, the golden lotus can be planted.”

These are words from the 16th century Buddhist novel “Journey to the West” by Wu Ch’eng-En.  It is also the inscription on the headstone of one of my favorite poets, Sylvia Plath.

The quote sums up how I feel about life in general, but it gives me special hope and comfort after all I’ve survived in MY life…even from the darkest and most terrible of places, beautiful and wonderful things can come.  This is a powerful thing to remember.

Metal Mouth

I’m not the only one thrilled with changes that took place in 2013.  One of Lana’s dreams came true in December when she finally got braces/bands on her teeth and became a full-blown METAL MOUTH…

Brace Face

Lana and Christian, 2 years and Going

I thought she was perfect just as she was, and it was terrible to watch her cry and suffer for the first few days after they put the brackets on, but she is so unbelievably happy with her new brace face.  I must say…in just the month and a half since she got them, I’ve seen an INCREDIBLE shift in her teeth — it’s amazing what these things can do!  And they’d BETTER be amazing, because that’s SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS you’re looking at inside her mouth.  Oy.  Momma better KEEP working 13 days out of every 14.  Totally worth it to see her so happy, though… 🙂

So what do I hope to accomplish in 2014?  TONS.  But the biggest goal is to complete a book — Yes, A BOOK!

The plan is to assemble a collection of both POETRY and POLAROIDS, then get it prepared for publication.  A huge undertaking, and I’m not sure when it will come to fruition.  But one day, there WILL be a book available for anyone interested in buying one, and I won’t stop until it happens.

This year, I will be busier than ever —  both taking photos and creating poems.  And writing will be even more fun with THIS, my new toy:

My Beautiful New Typewriter

Behold, my beautiful vintage manual typewriter — a light blue Smith Corona Galaxie Twelve model 🙂

I am in love! ❤

Experimenting with the Typewriter

Obviously, it needs its ribbon changed — good thing I bought a couple.  But it’s an absolute DREAM.  Can’t wait to start composing on this baby.

I’m SO ready for the rest of the year.  Let’s do it, you guys — let’s all have the best year ever, TOGETHER.  And interact with me, yeah?  You CAN write to me.  If you want to communicate privately, just leave a comment here on WordPress, and I can read it and then delete it without publishing it (all comments must be approved by me before they show up on my site).  You can also contact me in a private message via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or Instagram.

And this blog isn’t just about me…let me know what YOU are doing/creating.  I’d love to hear from you all!

Until next time,

  1. Looking forward to your book/collection. I like the typewriter idea. Mostly I write my notes now cursive, which I relearned. The only problem with this is — God forbid — no electronic backup. So in case of some catastrophe it’s possible to lose all that work, so scan it all up now and again… 😉
